In the Fort van Breendonk we hear the poignant story of the fort as a former concentration camp. A guide outlines the historical framework and explains the different rooms and their meaning. The tour is both informative and captivating. Met Ferry, our city guide, we discover the Mechelen of more than 50 years ago, combined with the history, folklore, politics, and romance of the Dijle city. Ferre brings the former and current Mechelen to life with a photo, a poem, an anecdote, a song, or a sketch, and all that in unadulterated Mechelen dialect.
After that, we take a boat trip on the Binnendijle and look at the city from a different perspective. We sail along green banks, under bridges, and past hidden spots that you don't see on foot. This relaxing boat trip forms a pleasant conclusion to a varied day full of history, culture, and coziness.
