Ghent Festivities: Guided tour 'The sisters of the Bijloke'

Fri, 24 Jul 2026 · 08:30
STAM Stadsmuseum Gent, Ghent
€8–22
A care site for more than seven centuries, now a cultural hotspot. History is there for the taking at our beautiful Bijloke site. Walking on the site and in the historic Bijloke Abbey, you step into the shoes of the sisters who once worked and lived here. And that during the Gentse Feesten 2026! Discover the magic of the Bijloke site and abbey and let yourself be carried away to the world of caring sisters, strong women. 'Ora et labora' and caritas. These women left worldly life, but at the same time were right in the middle of it. A story about obedience and rebellion, care and boss ladies avant la lettre. About how sisters learned to stand their ground, with the Lord in mind and hands at the bedside. This guided tour takes you inside the STAM and the Bijloke Abbey and outside on the Bijloke site. Inside, the abbey refectory, the dormitory, and the abbey church are covered, where the sisters lived and resided. Start: at 10:30 AM in the entrance hall of the STAM Duration: 1.5 hours Price: your STAM admission ticket + 8 euros for the guided tour Ghent residents do not need to buy a STAM admission ticket during the Gentse Feesten (but 8 € for the guided tour) This guided tour takes place partially outside
