Roel Dieltiens brings Bach's cello suites to life with a unique combination of tradition, imagination, and personal flair. His performance balances effortlessly between historical awareness and fresh interpretation, with every note felt to its core. With his virtuosity and depth, he lets the rich polyphony, rhythmic playfulness, and emotional power of these masterpieces shine completely. What follows is not an academic reenactment, but a lively dialogue with Bach. Intimate, intense, and timeless. Roel Dieltiens is a Belgian cellist, known for his performances on both baroque and modern cello. From 2002 to 2021, Dieltiens was professor of cello at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Zurich, where he trained a new generation of cellists. In addition, he teaches chamber music at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven. He has been a jury member at international competitions such as the Leipzig Bach Competition, the Tsjaikovski Concours in Moscow, and the Queen Elisabeth Competition. He is also the founder of Ensemble Explorations, with which he has made various award-winning recordings. His discography includes works by Vivaldi, Beethoven, and Boccherini, among others, released on labels such as Harmonia Mundi and Et'cetera. In 2010, he received both the Klara Award and the Caecilia Prijs for his recording of the six cello suites by J.S. Bach. His approach to the repertoire is characterized by a combination of historical awareness and personal interpretation.
