Pearls of Heritage Every month, a church in Tongeren-Borgloon opens its doors to explore top heritage under the guidance of a guide. During each visit, special stories are told. Stories hidden in building stones, statues, stained glass windows... We highlight art styles from Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism, and Neo-styles to idiosyncratic modern art forms. Tombstones show knights in full battle gear, ostentatious family crests, and honorary titles. We reflect on the broad history of the village and neighborhood. Amazing stories behind saint statues, sometimes with bizarre, gruesome attributes, are also not missing. The churches are at a turning point. Now that religious attendance is waning, treasures of heritage and treasures of stories from our past often remain hidden behind locks and alarms. Will you join us on a journey of discovery to these pearls of heritage? De Sint-Pancratius Church in Widooie This church already existed in the 12th century. In 1845, a new church was built in a classicist style, designed by J. Dumont and led by architect Suys. When? Sunday, 6/7/2026 at 2:00 PM Participation in this tour is free.
