Ode to Schulhoff

Do you have a passion for traditional Baroque music? Or perhaps you’re more of a fan of festive folk music? Don’t worry! The young Schulhoff Trio combines both styles in their brand-new concert programme. The trio consists of three young, energetic musicians who share a passion for Czech composer Erwin Schulhoff. He was one of the first to introduce jazz, dance rhythms and modern influences into classical music, until his career was tragically cut short by the Nazi regime. Driven by their love for Schulhoff’s Concertino, this trio has grown into a close-knit ensemble dedicated to discovering lesser-known repertoire and arrangements for flute, viola and double bass. This lively programme takes you on a journey from festive Baroque to traditional folk music. Michael Haydn’s Divertimento opens in a light and playful manner, followed by intimate Bach arrangements from the Goldberg Variations. Koechlin’s Trio is a subtle tribute to Bach and serves as a bridge to Bartók’s fiery Romanian folk dances. The finale is Schulhoff’s own Concertino: an irresistible blend of tradition, humour, rhythm and folk music. This piece brings together the diverse musical styles and elements heard in the previous works: tradition is thus united with folk music! The finale to the concert is sure to go out with a bang!
