To call Regisseur Terrence Malick a grandmaster is an understatement. Words fall short to describe his experimental documentary film from 2016 Voyage of Time. That the cinematography is impressive is beyond dispute. Yet the film is much more than an aesthetic tour de force. The film explores the birth and death of the universe known to us through the emergence and eventual collapse of time. An existential meditation that takes us from the infinite void of the cosmos to the swarming of microscopic life on our planet.
