Johan Petit
and Vanessa Broes read De Mantel, a novella by Nicolai Gogol. In a
reworked version. Each in their own way, in their own language. Prepare yourself for
one of the most sad, but also most beautiful evenings you have ever
experienced.
De Mantel
tells the story of Akakiej Akakiejevietsj, an insignificant little civil servant
who fulfills the function of copyist at an insignificant ministry. Yet he is
happy with his work. Every day again, from nine to five, he does nothing
else but write. In the evening, after dinner, he continues working on the documents
that he brings home from the ministry. And if he has nothing to do,
he makes, out of pure hobby, a copy for himself.
Thus lives
Akakiej Akakiejewietsj his calm, peaceful life.
Until he one
day has a new coat made for himself. And then fate strikes.
