Cirqus Hialøs is a genre-transcending performance by the Scandinavian artist collective ENT, in which the raw power of traditional music is combined with the expressive power of contemporary circus. The core of the performance is formed by a deep respect for cultural heritage, but Cirqus Hialøs is not a nostalgic tribute. It is a bold reinvention. The award-winning folk trio Hialøsa sets the tone with innovative interpretations of timeless Scandinavian folk songs. Their music – with violins, double bass, and vocals – is expanded with live electronic sound manipulation, creating a sonic landscape that is both old and immediate. Around this, four circus artists create a visceral, physical reaction: hair hanging, trapeze, rope, dance, and acrobatics make the romantic aesthetic often associated with folk traditions disappear and reveal something raw, real, and powerfully human. Cirqus Hialøs navigates on the border between life, death, dance, and music – a ritual and celebration of existence, which reflects the common roots of folk culture while fearlessly pushing its boundaries.
