Monolord thrives on repetition, weight and restraint, pushing minimal elements to their heaviest extremes. Monolord has been revolving around the same principle since ‘Empress Rising’ and ‘Vænir’: few elements, maximum impact! Vanuit Göteborg, Thomas Jäger, Esben Willems, and Mika Häkki have deepened that sound further on ‘Rust’ and ‘No Comfort’, where unyielding riffs keep dragging and tension slowly builds without ever releasing. That brought them from clubs to stages around the world. At Roadburn, Hellfest, and Desertfest, among others, it became clear that the sets of these Swedes are not about variation, but about endurance. Layer by layer. With new work on the way for 2026, Monolord continues to do exactly what they have been doing for years, and that is exactly why it works! Dopelord redefines modern doom with crushing weight, relentless groove and a sound built for total surrender. Since ‘Magick Rites’, Dopelord has been relentlessly focusing on riffs that act as the heart of the band. Since 2012, the Poles have been building a sound that leans on vintage heavy rock and proto-metal, but which they have stretched on ‘Black Arts, Riff Worship & Weed Cult’ and ‘Children of the Haze’ into heavy, psychedelic blocks that keep thickening. With ‘Sign of the Devil’, the quartet opened that up even further, and on ‘Songs for Satan’, their approach sounds sharper and more confident than ever. In the meantime, Dopelord has grown into a staple within the European scene, with a live reputation that revolves around volume, control, and surrender. There used to be doom, now there is Dopelord!
