Songs from here, stories of people from around the corner, memories that linger: 'Meetjesland Meets Jazz' is a concert like a living diary of the region. What does the Meetjesland sing? From forgotten gems to songs that have resonated for generations. Rutger Mathys and Elias D’hooge went into the region and collected songs straight from the heart of the audience. Together with the Elias D’hooge Trio and guest musicians such as Marie-Anne Standaert, they give that music a new life, with a fresh jazz sound. With deep roots in the region — Rutger, Elias, and Marie Anne were born and raised there — this project sounds both familiar and surprising. For those who know jazz and for those who think they don't: this performance shows that jazz is not a genre, but a way of listening, playing, and experiencing.
