Mushrooms and a piece of history of Ravenhof-Moretusbos

On the border of Belgium and the Netherlands lies the Moretusbos estate, which was commissioned by Jonkheer Johannes Josephus Moretus in the middle of the 18th century. On the site of the former Steenland farm, a castle was built in the 16th century. In 1810, that castle was rebuilt in Rococo style. The Gloriette, also built in this style, was already there in 1768. Old avenues, sightlines, a star forest, and other elements that are so characteristic of a Baroque estate are present. But influences of the English landscape style and the gardenesque period can also be found here. The many old trees attract many birds with species such as black woodpecker, great spotted woodpecker, nuthatch, and treecreeper.
