Flax by bike in the Mandel Valley

Vlas à velo in de Mandelvallei Once again this year, the Texture museum would like to take you on a guided bike ride through a blue-purple flax landscape, around the Mandel valley. So, grease up the ‘kieten’ (bike chains) for a bike ride of approximately 45 km in Meulebeke and the surrounding area, and especially for a bunch of juicy stories about working and living in the flax region, past and present. On the program is a visit to: - the Goethals Mill in Dentergem - Libeco linen weaving mill in Meulebeke. Between the blooming flax fields, you will also cycle past a flax retting and scutching plant. You will have lunch at the Baliekouter in Wakken, naturally with a view of the Mandel. This year, flax ambassador Jan Lefebvre will be your guide again. Tip: just like the flax farmers, be prepared for all of nature's scenarios and bring a filled water bottle, sunscreen, a sun hat, and a raincoat. An electric bike is not a must, but the majority of people go on this trip with one. Practical info When? Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10 a.m. to approx. 5 p.m. We will meet at 9:45 a.m. at the starting location. Where? Starting location: Libeco parking lot, Tieltstraat 112, 8760 Tielt Dit is also the end location. Duration of bike ride: Approx. 7 hours, equal to approx. 45 km.
