BAKENEKO - Charlotte Goesaert

In BAKENEKO, performer/maker Charlotte Goesaert is on stage herself in a physical solo about how trauma gets stuck in the body. Invisible to the outside world but all-determining from within. The performance exposes the lingering traces of child abuse and neglect, while simultaneously questioning the mechanisms that sustain them. Starting from conversations with people who come into contact with this theme through their social role, Goesaert weaves their voices, images, and sound with the expressive presence of her own body. This creates an intense experience in which documentary elements and physical imagination challenge each other. BAKENEKO is not a search for ready-made answers, but an invitation to collective reflection. How is it that we so often notice signals too late? Why don't we intervene faster? What needs to change to better protect children? How do we deal with a reality we would rather forget? Where is the line between compassion and discomfort? Goesaert immerses the audience in an experience that chafes, touches, and continues to linger.
