Four cycling tips that count, and we want to talk about that last tip for a moment. Because yes: you can be there, at the ninth Groote Sluitingsprijs Bahamontes. The annual celebration of the race – organized by perhaps the best cycling magazine in the Westelijk Halfrond – is landing this year on Saturday, October 31 in the legendary theater hall De Vooruit in Ghent. That evening, the theater hall of Vooruit transforms into a swirling temple of cycling, where the High Priests of the Race come to confess their love for cycling. Domestiques and team leaders, winners and losers, sprinters and climbers, heroes and heroines: they all pass in review in a heartwarming ode to the race. Bahamontes as you know it, but live on a stage instead of on paper. Expect candid, penetrating cycling chats interspersed with splitting race numbers by the Bahamontes band led by Pieter-Jan De Smet and Jean Blaute. There is echelon poetry, cap-on-cap-off, attacks straight at the funny bone, surprises on the big plate, and the scent of massage oil and riders' sweat in the air. Naturally all out of love for the craft!
