Amrum, spring 1945. In the final days of the war, 12-year-old Nanning braves the rough sea to hunt seals, fishes at night, and works on the nearby farm to help his mother support the family. Despite the difficult circumstances, life on the beautiful, wind-swept island feels almost like a paradise. But when peace finally arrives, there turns out to be an unexpected threat; the enemy is much closer than he ever thought. Amrum, 1945 is a poignant coming-of-age story by German director Fatih Akin (Gegen die Wand, Aus dem Nichts), in which he collaborates once again with Diane Kruger. The film is inspired by the childhood memories of Akin's friend and mentor Hark Bohm, who wrote the novel of the same name.
