SEA-renades : AMARANTHE CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS - Christmas concert

Sun, 27 Dec 2026 · 17:00
Sint-Monicakerk, De Haan
€30
Amaranthe, young ladies' choir, with Johannes Dewilde as conductor A Christmas event not to be missed. This program places medieval melodies at the center. Chants that have sounded for centuries in monasteries, churches, on squares, and surely also in living rooms, are brought back to life here by the celebrated young ladies' choir Amaranthe. A special role is reserved for the Irish composer and arranger Michael McGlynn, who gives this old music a new glow with his characteristic, transparent style. His works form the common thread in a concert that moves between mystery and stillness, exuberant joy, and quiet contemplation. In addition to well-known Christmas carols such as Gaudete and the Coventry Carol, richly harmonized contemporary a cappella choral work sounds, repertoire in which Amaranthe feels audibly at home: pure, expressive, and with a deep connection to the text. The repertoire showcases the collective power of this choir, but also gives some singers the chance to express themselves as soloists. For the occasion, conductor Johannes Dewilde arranged two grand settings of the magnum mysterium by Owain Park and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, originally composed for mixed choir. This concert is a loving encounter between old and new, in which the magic of Christmas unfolds in exuberant sounds and soft melodies.
