The Porcelain Shop

Push open the door of the PORCELAIN SHOP! The exhibition recounts the effervescence of a Brussels porcelain factory that ran through our country's history uninterruptedly between 1830 and 2020. From the shop window to behind the scenes, it highlights so many human trajectories: artisans, workers, vendors, directors, clients… All of them, each in their own way, have accompanied and shaped these two centuries. In this adventure made of (r)evolutions, each piece of porcelain becomes a witness to fashions, customs, and the major shifts in our society. From the domestic setting to public spaces, from royal commissions to mass productions up to the rise of new artistic styles, the diversity of the pieces surprises in forms and functions. Porcelain is not what you think. Stroll through Le Magasin de Porcelaine and discover a history that is industrial, social, and deeply human all at once. To extend the exhibition, several creations by contemporary art artisans offer a fresh perspective on fine craft and its practice, far from being obsolete.
