Film club - "Palestine 36" by Annemarie Jacir

At the roots of the conflict Palestine, 1936. The Great Arab Revolt, intended to bring about an independent state, is brewing while the territory is under British mandate. Aided by numerous color archives that integrate seamlessly with the more novelistic side of the feature film, Palestine 36 mixes individual destinies and collective movements (strike, rebellion, attacks >< fierce repression). While the narrative is undeniably committed, evoking only indirectly the Jewish perspective on this piece of history, it strives never to succumb to caricature, rightly insisting on the feeling of dispossession of the Palestinians, of betrayal even, regarding their desire for independence.
