Christmas at Vlierbeek Abbey brings a magical concert where time seems to stand still for a moment. Following previous successful editions featuring Austrian, Flemish and English Christmas music, Currende takes you to France this year.
Under the title L’Amour de Noël, conductor Erik Van Nevel has put together an atmospheric programme featuring traditional Christmas carols and Baroque music by composers such as Marc-Antoine Charpentier and Louis Couperin, interspersed with his own arrangements.
With six singers and a refined ensemble of Baroque violins, violas da gamba, organ and recorders, a unique soundscape is created in which centuries-old melodies, well-known Christmas carols, forgotten gems and fresh arrangements are brought back to life. The combination of refined vocals and period instruments – a hallmark of Currende – allows this ancient Christmas music to shine in all its simplicity and refinement.
