Creation and mental disability. Field / Off-field

This exhibition is the third in the field | off-field series, the principle of which is to associate socio-artistic projects led by artists, grassroots actors, or engaged citizens. This time, our focus is on creative work with people with intellectual disabilities. No Sovereign Author presents Alissa, a documentary and collaborative project around imagery started with autistic youth who have little or no access to speech, accompanied in their daily lives by a medico-educational institute in northern France. The Hors Cadres project, conceived by Ladyfest BXL, initiates a reflection on contemporary feminist issues with participants from day-care centers in Brussels. Collaboration between artists is at the heart of two projects established at ArBA-EsA. Cartographie d’une ville imaginaire is a collective installation born from the encounter between students from the Art curriculum in Espace Public and artists from Centre Sésame, while Binôme LAB pairs Illustration students with artists from Créahmbxl who produce graphic works with four hands. Projects that go through a plurality of creative processes and forms of collaboration to encourage sharing, exchange, and also individual and collective expression. Projects that, while giving visibility to people with intellectual disabilities, above all respect their agency.
