Storytelling concert about 'dreams and writing letters' in the context of Armistice Day

Dries CHAERLE, narrator Karl VANNESTE, piano Her name is Edith, Edith Ainscow. She grows up near Birmingham, in England, and when she turns seventeen, her young girl's eyes catch her brother's friend after a night out. They went to the theater together in the year-end period of 1914 – and that is where it happens. He has Geoffrey, Geoffrey Boothby. He is a few years older, 20, and planning to become a dentist. But in the early spring of 1915, he trades the University of Birmingham for a training camp in Bovington. There he does not become a dentist, but rather an officer. Second lieutenant. But that other future plan with Edith – however early and fragile it must have been in those first days or weeks – also becomes impossible because of the war that called him. Just before Geoffrey left, they exchanged handkerchiefs (as a tangible piece of each other). And then he went and she stayed behind. The only thing you can do then is dream – and write letters. Sign up for one of the two narrative concerts; at 11 AM or at 3 PM. Additionally, works by Droene Chaerle, daughter of Dries, can be admired. The price of 20eur includes a drink afterwards.
