‘Killing Me Softly With His Song’, ‘Feel Like Makin’ Love’, ‘Where Is The Love’… They are songs that immediately evoke recognition. Many of them we owe to Roberta Flack, the American singer with the soft, almost whispering voice that effortlessly connected soul, jazz, R&B, and pop. She played piano herself and developed a personal, intimate musical language. Her career had a peak in the 70s, but she continued to perform until she became ill in 2022. In February 2025, she passed away. As a Voor de Zuid-African/Belgian singer, Tutu Puoane, she was a childhood heroine and a shining example of how a black artist could build a successful career in an honest and musical way. Perhaps it is no coincidence that Tutu’s own voice and musical approach are regularly compared to those of Flack. After various projects and her recent passages in the Lotto Arena with Bart Peeters, Tutu now brings a personal homage to Roberta Flack.
