introduction at 7:15 PM
Wajdi Riahi was born in Tunis and began studying piano and Arabic music at a young age. He moved to Brussels where he developed a unique style: a mix of jazz and Mediterranean music in which he combines virtuosity, emotion, and improvisational freedom. In no time, he became a fixture in the Belgian jazz scene. For example, he was artist in residence at the Brussels Jazz Festival earlier this year.
In his Wajdi Riahi Trio, featuring Basile Rahola on double bass and Pierre Hurty on drums, finesse and energy come together. With two acclaimed albums and the musical intensity and chemistry between the musicians, the group has found its place on European stages.
Last year saw the release of ‘Zabonprés Sessions’, a live album that makes you want to see the trio on stage, where it truly comes alive.
In an intimate setting where you sit on stage together with the musicians, you can experience that up close.
“Overall, it’s a beautiful album that takes the modern jazz piano trio in an exciting new direction. And given that they only started in 2020 and have already recorded two exceptional albums, they’re a trio worth watching as well as listening to.” London Jazz News
