Huelgas Ensemble is coming to Ghent with Paul Van Nevel and the music with which it has been in charge for more than fifty years
In 586 BC, Jerusalem falls. Jeremiah writes laments full of grief and anger. A fascinated Orlandus Lassus composes music for them twice. The one and only Paul Van Nevel promises euphoria in the Sint-Pieterskerk with the four-part set of lamentations: a highlight from Lassus' oeuvre in which Hebrew initials fray into miraculous melismas and powerful metaphors echo in crushing polyphony. Huelgas Ensemble shows once again that beautiful music is also always a bit heartbreaking.
