Won the prize for strongest screenplay in Cannes. Eighty years after the war, France is still struggling with its collaborationist past. Director Emmanuel Marre's grandfather was 'wrong'. Henri Marre travels to Vichy in September 1940. Broke, alienated from his family, with a self-written manifesto called Notre salut (Our salvation). Henri sees the authoritarian, collaborating Vichy regime as an opportunity to make a career and escape his own downfall by making himself useful to the new administration. The 'wrong side' in France, just like with us, had numerous small, misguided anti-heroes.
