Arenberg, Antwerp

This autumn, Crossing Border is back! On November 8, the international literature and music festival will take over Arenberg with the most exciting and finest names from the literary and musical scene. With a strong lineup of (inter)national artists and authors, Crossing Border is the ideal festival for connoisseurs, explorers, and pleasure-seekers alike. LITERATURE Tom Lanoye dives into the work of cult writer JMH Berckmans, whose complete works were recently collected in 'Barakstad'. A tribute to one of the most idiosyncratic voices in Flemish literature. Oscar van den Boogaard is considered one of the most important voices in Dutch-language literature. In De Zes van Antwerpen he brings the mythical story of Antwerp fashion designers to life in a compelling and personal collective biography. Poet and author Dominique De Groen won the Jan Campertprijs and the Cultuurprijs van Stad Gent, among others. With 'Corpus Britney' she makes her novel debut: a hallucinatory, genre-bending trip through pop culture, cyberspace, and the dark recesses of the digital age. Het Grote JMHB Psychotraumatische Boekenbal Crossing Border Antwerpen closes with a wild homage to JMH Berckmans. Expect music, performance, literature, and absurd surprises featuring Vitalski, Rudy Trouvé, Alex Deforce, Steven Grietens, Gert Vanlerberghe and Butsenzeller, among others. Expect further sharp satire from Tony Tulathimutte, existential finesse from Catherine Lacey, and idiosyncratic stories from Barbi Markovic. Ook Abdelrahman ElGendy brings poetic urgency, while Ghayath Almadhoun presents powerful, political poetry. MUSIC In addition, captivating concerts provide the perfect change of pace. Let yourself be carried away by the soulful spoken word of aja monet, get lost in the dreamy folk of Flora Hibberd, discover the raw indie sounds of Dan English, and experience the adventurous jazz of Hendrik Lasure. BARLOKAL curated by Rotkat and Vonk & Zonen Drie poets and three musicians join forces for three unique performances: MONOMONO and Anke Verschueren bring language into dialogue with the compelling, dark soundscapes of MONOMONO. Shy Dog and Maria De Cort explore the boundary between poetry, theater, and minimalist electronic darkpop. En Jonas Meersmans and Flor Declercq weave poetry with the cinematic and psychedelic sounds of the acoustic guitar.
