Guido Belcanto

Sat, 7 Nov 2026 · 20:00
De Roma, Antwerp
On a hot day last summer, Guido Belcanto drove his silver Cadillac to Brussels, heading for the Cinquantenaire Park. There, he stopped at a pavilion in front of the gigantic relief The Human Passions by Jef Lambeaux.Among the stone bodies, he also recognized himself. The busker who went from café to café singing songs by, among others, Zangeres Zonder Naam. The man who later sang about his own desires, without shame. And also the darker sides of others – with great compassion, but not without humor.Back home, he picked up pen and guitar and wrote, with a sinister smile on his lips: “Life is a grim horror… We are all in the same boat: everyone, rich or poor, we all die.”But in the meantime, there is the Emperor of the chanson, comforting and unflappable, to make everything right.Soon the silver Cadillac will be speeding again along Belgian and Dutch roads. In its trunk lies a new album: The Pavilion of Human Passions. But also old hits, a few murder ballads, and his versions of songs by Loudon Wainwright III, David McWilliams, and Zangeres Zonder Naam. There is no concept for the show. Or perhaps there is. The concept is called Guido. So expect the unexpected. But also a veteran who still has it. Someone who sings with a sweet, familiar voice, shaped by nights, desires, and a love that does not fade. At De Roma, Guido performs with his full band.
