HALF & HALF | Textile workshop

Sat, 7 Nov 2026 · 11:00–13:00
Muntpunt, Brussels
Bring a piece of clothing that you love to wear. Something with a hole, a stain, or that just needs a little extra love. We repair or decorate the piece of clothing. We do this with an embroidered or painted patch. You can embroider, paint, repair by hand, or just watch and be there. We talk in Dutch and practice the language this way. We share materials and attention. It is a calm, slow, collective activity – a way to repair something small and share stories. And to learn something new. You do not need any experience. Everyone can join. EN - Together, we repair and decorate clothing and fabrics. And we practice Dutch. FR - Ensemble, nous réparons et décorons des vêtements et des tissus. Et nous pratiquons le néerlandais. HALF & HALF. Half do, half speak Dutch. Are you a Dutch speaker? Join in and help someone practice Dutch. For each activity there are 3 places for Dutch speakers. Send an email to valentine.warlop@muntpunt.be to register. You simply join the workshop and talk Dutch with the other participants in the meantime. Veel Brusselaars are learning Dutch, but do not always know enough Dutch speakers to chat with. That is precisely why such a simple conversation during an activity can mean a lot: trying out words, asking questions, daring to make mistakes. This is how you experience a fun activity and help someone speak Dutch with more confidence. Who is Sara-Sam Hamedi? Sara-Sam Hamedi organizes the textile workshop ‘Tweede Huid’ as part of her PhD research at PXL MAD Media Art Design and the Universiteit van Hasselt. Sara-Sam Hamedi is a Brussels-based artist-researcher and PhD candidate at MAD-PXL/UHasselt. Her research explores fashion, repair, public intimacy and what she calls the 'graphic skin'. These are the surfaces we wear and that mediate our relationship with ourselves and others. As a queer multidisciplinary artist from Iran, she moves between photography, animation film and textile. Her practice increasingly focuses on the body and the ethics of wearing: from psychic armors to public interventions like Crazy Hair Queers with Coupé and Frites and Sunday Mourning-gatherings around collective grief and repair. Her practice is slow, caring and deeply rooted in the belief that we do not achieve something alone, but together. What does Tweede Huid mean? We want to feel good in our clothing. The colors, the shapes, the text, the fabric… show who we are. Clothing that fits well feels like a part of our body. Like a second skin.
