The Father

After the once-so-vibrant André has chased away his last home nurse, his daughter Anne sees no other way out than to take her dementing father into her home. Caring for André puts the relationship between parent and child under high tension. What follows is a confusing maze in which truth and fiction become increasingly difficult to distinguish from one another. 'De Vader' is a psychological drama that takes an intimate look at the crumbling reality of a man with dementia. An intriguing family portrait in which the limits of ‘caring’ and ‘unconditional love’ are pushed to their extreme. How do you communicate with someone who experiences a different reality? How do you slowly say goodbye to someone who no longer recognizes you? 'De Vader' was showered with international awards and the 2020 film adaptation with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman was a huge success. Now for the first time on the professional Flemish stage, on tour starting September 2026.
