Jan Vanlangendonck (Radio 1) tells in "De Geheime Kamer", a moving resistance story from the Tweede Wereldoorlog, based on true facts in his own family.
Elly Aerden and Jan Van Rossem provide intimate music from the '40s.
Let yourself be guided into De Geheime Kamer for a moment. A gripping story that transcends family and village stories, one that really existed.
May 10, 1940. Germany invades Belgium. 18 days later the Belgisch Leger surrenders and the entire territory is occupied.
After just a few months, Jan Verlinden and his wife Irma Van Poyer commit their first act of resistance: they hide a man sought by the Germans in their house. That house is quite large and has many rooms. It is a butcher's shop annex taproom, a large living area and a spacious basement. In that basement quite a few more people will go into hiding over the course of the war years. But after several raids by the Germans, the basement is no longer safe and a room on the second floor is prepared. It becomes the ‘secret room’.
This is a story based on archives and testimonies, but it is also an ode to those many tens of thousands who resisted the occupation of Belgium. An ode also to all those who today resist any form of occupation.
The storytelling theater contains suspense, romance, nostalgia, history, current affairs and live music from the '40s.
A drink is included in the price.
