Meet a supergroup within the new generation of the griot tradition! The three musicians of Trio Da Kali are rooted in the Mandé culture of Mali and are part of the prominent griots - the caste that passes on its traditions and history orally from generation to generation. Zangeres Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté is the daughter of Kassé Mady Diabaté, one of the greatest voices Africa ever produced. Madou Kouyaté is the son of Bassekou Kouyaté, grandmaster on the ngoni (West African lute). En Lassana Diabaté, who sets the artistic lines, is the authority on the balafon (the iconic xylophone-with-bottle-gourds from the griot tradition). Trio Da Kali gives a fresh and creative twist to their musical art, and thereby breathes new life into this ancient tradition. Their performances offer a rare glimpse into the soul of the griot art and celebrate the most beautiful, subtle, and sublime music of the African continent.
