When one can, one wants

Tue, 3 Nov 2026
Centre culturel de Namur (Abattoirs de Bomel), Namur
Tiphaine Rivière offers a graphic novel that can serve as an entry point for him. It follows a group of high school students who discover Bourdieu's concepts at school. When they return home in the evening, they begin to cast a fresh gaze upon their families. Then they decide to step out of their microcosm and explore new social universes... shattering their family equilibria. By following their love stories, their arguments with their parents, and their dreams for the future, we discover the system of domination that La Distinction exposes and the most important concepts of Bourdieu's thought. The author has been invited by numerous high schools to present her work. She has drawn the reactions of teenagers from these high schools upon reading the graphic novel. And these reactions vary considerably depending on the social background of these students... She has also drawn, alongside the graphic novel, the reflections of some of our politicians who could have served as models for La Distinction's theories.
