SILENT VOICES

Opening Doors is an inclusive theater group that has been working with people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities since 2008. The group consists of about thirty performers from day centers in Leopoldsburg and Lummen, who have consciously chosen theater as their daily activity for more than fifteen years. Under the artistic guidance of Stefan Perceval, Opening Doors has grown into an experienced group of players with performances at home and abroad, sold-out venues in Leopoldsburg, and a permanent place within the inclusive arts landscape. For STILLE STEMMEN, the players, together with Esmé Bos and Bart Voet, go in search of sound, voice, and musicality. With acoustic instruments and self-discovered sounds, a unique theatrical sound world is created. STILLE STEMMEN is a performance about being heard. About their voices, their movements, their strength, and their stories; about how they literally and figuratively stand or hang in the world, or sit, and how they move through that world: singing, mumbling, shouting, dancing, shuffling, running, trembling. They go in search of everyone's voice. The fearful voice, the sharp voice, the soft and warm voice. Sounds that make you happy and giving them words. This creates a layered, poetic, and moving music theater performance that makes audible what often remains unheard.
