A photobook that comes to life
What if a book is not a silent object, but a living experience?
At ADE DEA: A Cover Version, every visitor is handed a copy of the same photobook. As you leaf through it together with the other attendees, you are surrounded by a carefully constructed soundtrack that plays from the immersive speakers all around you. Voices, music, nature sounds, and darkness take you through the pages. This creates a special form of collective viewing and listening: everyone experiences the same book, at the same time.
ADE DEA by photographer Sara Rossi
Centraal features the photobook ADE DEA by artist and photographer Sara Rossi. For ten years, she roamed the peripheral areas around Milan during twilight: places where city and nature touch, where abandoned wasteland, verges, and small ecosystems reveal unexpected beauty.
Her photos show wildflowers, plants, and fragile details that are often touched by only a single ray of evening light. The result is a visual herbarium full of wonder, in which light and dark are in constant dialogue with one another.
The title refers to a playful word game. "ADE" is the Italian name for Hades, the underworld in Greek mythology. "DEA" means goddess. Together they form a poetic reference to transition, seasons, nature, and the continuous movement between light and shadow.
A soundtrack created by ambient duo LOG
For this 'cover version', a completely new sound world was created around Rossi's book by LOG, the musical duo of Ulla and Perila.
Their composition moves between field recordings, subtle electronic textures, and warm musical tones. Organic sounds flow together with electronic landscapes, creating an environment that feels both familiar and mysterious.
The soundtrack not only guides you through the book, but also opens up new perspectives on the images. What you see influences what you hear, and vice versa.
A unique creation by Time Based Editions
ADE DEA: A Cover Version is part of Time Based Editions, an international project by theater maker Ant Hampton. The starting point is as simple as it is surprising: existing publications are transformed into shared listening experiences.
For this edition, Hampton worked with Sara Rossi and LOG. The result is not an exhibition, not a concert, and not a classical performance, but a sensory encounter between book, sound, and audience.
