Triple concerto with Kanneh-Mason, Gillam and Goldscheider - Jonathan Bloxham, Jess Gillam,

Fri, 20 Nov 2026 · 20:00
Koningin Elisabethzaal, Antwerp
€17–79
Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, horn player Ben Goldscheider and saxophonist Jess Gillam were the three finalists of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2016. Connected by friendship, they stand on stage together again ten years later. De Welshe composer Gwilym Simcock composed a jazzy triple concerto tailored to the trio, commissioned by the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, BBC Proms, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. And there is another Welsh composer on the program. Grace Williams, a student of Ralph Vaughan Williams, gave sound to the changing temperament of the sea in her Sea Sketches, from tempestuous and seductive to extremely calm. She was musically influenced by Edward Elgar, from whom we also get to hear the First symphony. In the lyrical third movement, he does not shy away from the grand gesture: this is music to fully enjoy. More to experience With free introduction at 7:15 pm Before the concert, you can participate in the workshop ‘The music of tomorrow’. During this session, you get practical insights and tools to enjoy contemporary classical repertoire even more. More info.
