In this special cemetery, where so many found their final resting place, this moment of remembrance and reflection takes on a special meaning. As evening falls, music, words, and atmospheric lighting create a warm atmosphere of connection and respect.
Tijdens Reveil music and spoken word are intertwined. Texts about comfort, loss, remembrance, and war invite reflection and give space to emotions and memories. Words that touch, stories that endure, and moments that make us pause for a moment to consider what and who we do not want to forget.
For this occasion, we welcome Field Marshall Haig’s Own Pipes and Drums.
Haig’s Own is a Flemish music group founded in 2013 on the occasion of a memorial concert in Passchendaele. The group is primarily a music group for commemorations and is affiliated with the Black Watch Association Scotland and the family of the 48th Highlanders Regiment of Canada. This explains, among other things, the red hackle on their headgear and the buttons of the 48th Highlanders Regiment on their jackets.
The members wear a kilt in the special Passchendaele commemorative tartan. Each color in this pattern refers to elements from the Eerste Wereldoorlog in the Flemish fields.
Haig’s Own participates in numerous commemorations in Flanders and is responsible for, among other things, the annual ceremony at the Black Watch Corner and the lament on November 11 at 11 o'clock at Tyne Cot Cemetery, the largest cemetery of the former Britse Rijk.
Furthermore, since January 2026, Haig’s Own has been a member of the Genootschap Passchendaele Society 1917.
The sounds of the pipes and drums among the graves, as darkness falls, together with the words form a poignant tribute to all whom we continue to remember.
Everyone is welcome to commemorate together.
