Can (online) dating be a remedy against political polarization? In Swiping Right investigates Sophie Anna Veelenturf what happens when political opposites meet in an intimate situation. What does ideology do to our dating world, desires, and relationships? How do political differences influence the way we navigate between attraction and resistance? Based on her own experiences - in which dates with right-wing conservative men failed time and again - Sophie Anna, a self-proclaimed “leftist girl”, translates her search to the stage. With humor and sharp dialogues, she brings theatrical re-enactments of interviews she conducted: with her dates, but also with, among others, politically mixed couples and academics. The result is an exciting encounter between ideology and intimacy, in which Sophie Anna flirts with stand-up comedy and documentary theater. In a ruthless, yet vulnerable way, she explores the boundaries between love and politics. In doing so, she holds up a mirror to the audience and asks the pressing question: can opposites really attract? Sophie Anna Veelenturf (°1999, Amsterdam) graduated in 2024 from the KASK Drama program (Ghent) as an actress and theater maker. Besides her work in the theater, she is a fervent singer. acting, concept, and text Sophie Anna Veelenturf - direction Doris de Vries - research, production, and co-direction Jarne Van Loon - acting coaching Kristien De Proost, Karolien De Bleser - outside eye Marah Haj Hussein - scenography Chloé Wasselin Dandre - set construction Wiebe Moerman - music composition and final mix Seppe Vande Veire - technical management Marjolein Demey, Nick De Keyser - technique Rex Tee, Jakke Theyssens - business management Tine Verhaert, Patrick Sterckx - office management Maya Van der Brempt - sales and project coordination David Bauwens - communication Sam Loncke - co-production Het Laatste Bedrijf, Cambridge Junction - residency partners CAMPO, NTGent, kunstencentrum nona, c o r s o, Het Oude Badhuis, Theater aan Zee, the Brakke Grond - with thanks to all interviewees, Rashif El Kaoui, Josie Dale-Jones - with the support of the Vlaamse Overheid, the Tax Shelter of the Belgian federal government, Gallop Tax Shelter, the Authors, the Stobbs New Ideas Fund - © photo Lisa Schamlé
