Muziektheaterwerkplaats Rif offers support to maker pathways and artistic research within music theater. The focus of the workshop is primarily on facilitating local and national talent, but occasionally there is also room for makers from distant countries.
From November 4 to 7, the Raga Ensamble de Percusiones from Mexico is staying at Rif. At the end of this short working period, the three residents will present a showcase of the performance Asahi.
About the presentation
Asahi consists of two short parts in which music, light, and movement work together:
Lux: In the first part, light plays a major role. Through the use of light and dark, you constantly see short snippets of the musicians' movements. The music is created not only by the percussion, but also by the way the bodies move through the hall.
Sonus Motus: In the second part, the musicians use voice, percussion, and spoken Japanese text. The atmosphere slowly changes from calm and intimate to increasingly exciting. It does not tell a fixed story, but shows how a quiet moment can suddenly change.
It is a mix of a concert, a dance performance, and theater.
