“There can be joy in killing joy.” (Sara Ahmed) Acteursgroep Wunderbaum and NTGent present for the first time in the Netherlands and Belgium a translated cycle by the German-Swiss author Sibylle Berg. Directed by Jesse Vandamme, ‘People with problems’ follows in four parts the life of a woman and her friends in different phases of their lives. It results in a razor-sharp tragicomic theater marathon about people who fearlessly defy the status quo. They are young. Their expectations are high, their actions stormy. They sell homemade drugs on the internet, are non-stop reachable on all digital channels. They date, have empty sex, and cry in toilets. Then they are not so young anymore. They have children and rural urges. Their bodies and teenagers protest. Friendships and careers crumble. Nature disappoints. ‘People with problems’ is a poignant account. A frantic attempt to do it differently and better. A flight to nature, crime, love, another planet, a bomb attack. What should we fight for? How much do you have to give up for that? What is left to save? Regisseur Jesse Vandamme: "The view of your own, aging life is sometimes marked by the intense, judgmental view of society that you have internalized. That is a struggle.
