Public guided tour – EXH#03 | Vanhaerents Art Collection

Discover the current exhibition EXH#03 during a guided public visit within the unique concept of the Viewing Depot of Vanhaerents Art Collection in Brussels. During our guided tours (11:00 AM and 2:00 PM), lasting 1 hour and 30 minutes, you will discover contemporary art by major international artists in an intimate and surprising setting. On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the collection radically rethought its presentation mode in 2017. Moving away from the classic exhibition model, the Viewing Depot was born: a hybrid space where aesthetics and functionality meet, offering visitors a rare look behind the scenes at one of Europe's most important private collections. EXH#03, inaugurated in April 2024 and curated by Walter Vanhaerents with Joost and Els Vanhaerents, brings together recent acquisitions and major works spread over three levels. Inspired by the Chinese zodiac, the exhibition unfolds in an associative way, mixing large-scale works, aesthetic innovation, emotional intensity, and current societal themes. The exhibition addresses subjects such as oppression, loss of freedom and identity, social inequalities, and migration. Artists such as Stephan Balleux, Gregory Crewdson, Alvaro Barrington, Jonathan Meese, Zakaria Ramhani, Jin Meyerson, Ugo Rondinone, Gillian Wearing, and Gilbert & George each offer a critical and unique reading of our world. Furthermore, Reflections on Breathing by the Danish artist Jeppe Hein is also part of the journey, presented in the project space. At the heart of this work is Breathe With Me, a participatory installation in which visitors visualize their breathing by drawing a blue line on the walls with each exhalation, gradually creating a collective drawing of connection and presence. With EXH#03, the collection presents its third major exhibition in this unique "viewing depot" setting. The selection brings together powerful and monumental works addressing themes such as identity, freedom, oppression, migration, and societal transformations. With international artists such as Gregory Crewdson, Gillian Wearing, Stephan Balleux, Alvaro Barrington, Ugo Rondinone, Jin Meyerson, Eddy Kamuanga, Zakaria Ramhani, Aaron-Viktor Peeters, and the iconic duo Gilbert & George, the exhibition balances aesthetic refinement and emotional intensity, inviting reflection on the contemporary world.
