Guided Visitors Day – EXH#03 | Vanhaerents Art Collection

Discover the current exhibition EXH#03 during a guided visitor day within the unique concept of the Viewing Depot of the Vanhaerents Art Collection in Brussels. During our guided visit moments (11:00 and 14:00), which each last 1 hour and 30 minutes, you will experience contemporary art by top international artists in an intimate and surprising setting. On the occasion of its tenth anniversary, the collection radically redesigned its presentation form in 2017. Away from the classic exhibition model, the Viewing Depot was created: a hybrid space where aesthetics and functionality come together and visitors get a rare look behind the scenes of one of Europe's most important private collections. EXH#03, opened in April 2024 and curated by Walter Vanhaerents together with Joost and Els Vanhaerents, brings together recent acquisitions and key works over three floors. Inspired by the Chinese zodiac, an associative exhibition unfolds in which large-scale works combine aesthetic innovation with emotional intensity and current social themes. The exhibition explores subjects such as oppression, loss of freedom and identity, social inequality, and migration. Works by, among others, Stephan Balleux, Gregory Crewdson, Alvaro Barrington, Jonathan Meese, Zakaria Ramhani, Jin Meyerson, Ugo Rondinone, Gillian Wearing and Gilbert & George each offer a unique, critical look at our world. In addition, Reflections on Breathing by the Danish artist Jeppe Hein is also part of the visit, presented in the project space. Central to this is the participatory work Breathe With Me, in which visitors visualize their breath via blue lines on the walls, resulting in a collective drawing of connection and presence. EXH#03 thus offers a powerful and layered experience in which art, reflection, and participation come together. With EXH#03, the collection presents its third major exhibition in this special "viewing depot" setting. The selection brings together large-scale, powerful artworks that touch on themes such as identity, freedom, oppression, migration, and social transformation. The exhibition includes work by international artists such as Gregory Crewdson, Gillian Wearing, Stephan Balleux, Alvaro Barrington, Ugo Rondinone, Jin Meyerson, Eddy Kamuanga, Zakaria Ramhani, Aaron-Viktor Peeters and the iconic duo Gilbert & George. Their works balance between aesthetic refinement and emotional directness, and invite reflection on the world of today. EXH#03 is an absolute must for those who want to experience contemporary art in an innovative, intimate, and unexpected way.
