Colette Goossens - Being Britney

Being Britney is a solo performance in which Colette Goossens plays a young woman who imagines herself Britney Spears. Britney gets an acute psychosis. In her bathroom, an intimate place, her inner world comes to life with hallucinations, delusions, and intense emotions. In a free and associative way, she tries to find answers to big questions about her existence. The performance asks important questions about psychosis and the care for it. What is a psychosis actually? Should we see it as an endpoint, or can we instead look at the special thoughts and experiences that lie hidden beneath it? With existing and new texts, acting, body language, and rhythm, Colette explores how mental vulnerability can become visible on stage, without making it ridiculous. Being Britney continues her artistic research by making the logic of a deranged mind palpable for the audience.
