Walk to recovery: theme metaphors

Tue, 1 Dec 2026 · 13:00
Bezoekerscentrum Webbekoms Broek, Diest
€3
Description? In our ‘Wandeling naar herstel: thema metaforen’ we use nature as a mirror to reflect on your own recovery process. Nature images such as a withered branch or a butterfly can help to explore and name experiences, feelings, and thoughts in a different way. The guidance is based on recovery-oriented and reflective methodologies, in which experiential learning and symbolic thinking are central. This approach supports the development of insight into yourself and into themes that play a role within your recovery process. The recovery-oriented goal of this walk is to gain more insight into yourself and your recovery through metaphors and nature experience. We explicitly make the translation to daily life, so that you can discover what these insights can mean in your own recovery trajectory. The exercises are non-binding: you choose yourself which metaphors are meaningful to you and what you do or do not want to share with the group. There is room for personal reflection and your own pace. We walk approximately 4.7 km in the Webbekoms Broek, with the possibility to shorten the route to 3.3 km. The pace is adjusted to the group. What is the goal of the course? The goal is to promote insight, reflection, and connection with one's own recovery process through nature metaphors and movement, with attention to rest, contact, and meaning-making. In collaboration with UilenSpiegel vzw & the Bezoekerscentrum Webbekoms Broek. Practical “Walking towards recovery: theme metaphors” is a bimonthly workshop given by Hadewijch & Loes (expert by experience & occupational therapist). Meeting point: 1:00 PM in the Visitor Center of the Webbekoms Broek (Omer Vanaudenhovelaan 48, Diest). If you like to note something down during the walk, you are always welcome to bring paper and pen. We estimate that the walk takes 2 to 3 hours, because of the stops we make along the way. Also ensure sturdy walking shoes and clothing adapted to the weather conditions. If desired, you can also bring a snack or drink for along the way.
