TERRIL + PULSAR

mer. 18 nov. 2026 · 18:00
Les Ecuries, Charleroi
Urban dance school anchored in Charleroi for over 40 years, Yuka Dance Academy offers at the Choreographic Center, as part of En vogue, a double program. Two short pieces, with a large cast, designed to circulate together or separately. A diptych to "say what Charleroi has in its legs" – from the landscape that composes it to the rhythms that inhabit it. Since its founding in Charleroi in 1980, Yuka Dance Academy has trained five generations of dancers, a rare continuity in the landscape of urban dances. And the raw material of this diptych designed to adapt to various contexts. Choreographed by Christopher “Baloo” Ntoutoume, TERRIL is inspired by these mounds of mining residues that have become wild hills, silhouettes that draw the Carolo landscape. Nine bodies climb an invisible mountain in this hip-hop opus built around the idea of relief. A group of eight performers constitutes the gravitational system PULSAR. Xavier Mwaku orchestrates there, around the core of house, a crossing of Afro grammars that irrigate the current Belgian scene. Two pieces, for two intimately connected questions. How does the contemporary urban body carry the memory of the place that shaped it? How does the collective pulsation make this body readable on stage?
