Atomic Joy

A choreographic guide to joy? That is the project of Ana Pi, Brazilian choreographer. Avec Atomic Joy, the artist-researcher in dances of the Diaspora Africaine Transatlantique brings together eight young performers experts in street dances of the Grand Paris, to make a joyful and resistant energy arise. On an original composition by CHASSOL, they deploy tender and fierce gestures. Facing the collapse of the world, Ana Pi responds with radical joy. For about fifteen years, the Brazilian choreographer based in France has been studying the circulation and memory of dances of the Diaspora Africaine Transatlantique, often called urban or peripheral. Avec Atomic Joy, she invites eight young performers to question the experimental potential and vitality of these practices transmitted from generation to generation, despite regimes of oppression. Together, they create a space of listening and disobedience, which is inspired by the culture of street dance battles, to the rhythm of original music by CHASSOL. Thanks to meticulous choreographic writing, they pay precise attention to their gestures, lively and vibrant, and connect this living heritage to futures yet unseen. A way to re-enchant reality in a collective momentum, strong with an emancipatory autonomy and a sense of urgency.
