Guido de Neve - The rich German baroque music for solo violin

In this program, the baroque violin is completely central, with its rich sound, versatility, and expressive possibilities. Three composers from the eighteenth century each show their own approach to the instrument and let it be heard how the violin can speak in a way that is dance-like, lyrical, and virtuosic. Johann Sebastian Bachs Partita No. 1 in B minor (BWV 1002) forms the starting point. The four dances – Allemanda, Corrente, Sarabande, and Tempo di Borea – are each followed by a Double, in which the same musical material is further developed. This creates a refined interplay of recognition and variation, in which each dance receives a new musical layer. Met de Fantasie in B♭ (TWV 40:14) Georg Philipp Telemann chooses a freer form. Short, contrasting ideas alternate and create a lively whole in which lyricism, playful rhythm, and virtuosity complement each other naturally. Johann Georg Pisendels Sonate in A minor closes the program with music that is strongly influenced by the Italian violin tradition. The sonata utilizes the full range of the baroque violin and combines technical bravura with great expressivity. The concert is performed on a baroque violin, built in Ghent in 1692 by Hendrik Willems. The historical sound of this instrument gives the music a special color and brings the repertoire close to its original sound world.
