Arts Day for Children

Experience a creative morning full of wonder together during the Kunstendag voor Kinderen! Cultuurhuis Brasschaat joins forces with the Library, the Gemeentelijke Academie for Music and Word, and Academie Noord for an inspiring program for families with children aged 8 and older. From 9 AM to 10 AM and from 11 AM to 12 PM, you are welcome at a series of creative workshops, inspired by the theme of the family show 'Wapper' by Casco Phil. At 10 AM, the musicians and actors of Casco Phil take you into the magical world of Wapper, an engaging family show full of music, fantasy, and imagination. When night falls, he appears: Wapper, the mischievous tormentor who creeps through the streets and plays wild pranks. As big as a house, he is the terror of night owls, who swear they saw him but never managed to catch him. As small as a mouse, he is the despair of citizens who thought they were sleeping peacefully, until their slippers suddenly vanished. After the show, families can join the workshops again. This way, everyone gets the chance to get creative themselves and further discover the inspiration from the show. The workshops are free, but reservation is mandatory! Info about the workshops Activiteiten Bib Workshop by Jan Van Lierde 8+ Jan wants to warm children up to the books he made and at the same time convey something to them about illustrating. His lectures contain both narrative and workshop elements. The lectures start with a presentation of a story and the various characters in it. This is followed by creative assignments, in which the children work with elements from the story. Jan invites them and gives instructions to come up with a character themselves or put a certain situation on paper. Of course, he also shares practical tips regarding drawing. What these assignments look like depends on the age of the children and the expectation of the organizer. Activiteiten Academie-Noord Maak your own Giant Brush! (8+) Did you know that the well-known Antwerp legend Lange Wapper can change shape in the blink of an eye? One moment he is a gigantic giant, the next moment as small as a mouse! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? We are making our own GIANT BRUSH! And such a brush is of course made from the craziest materials: think of small twigs, wool, sponges, combs,... . Everything you can draw, stamp, or smear with. Next, we will get to work with our gigantic creations on paper ranging from very small to super format! Bring your own stick or branch! We have a collection of sticks ready, but feel free to bring a nice branch or stick of your own from home or from the forest to transform into your personal super brush! We completely immerse ourselves in the story of Lange Wapper. In this workshop, we get to work with our own voice and body. We sing songs, recite texts, and move with our whole body.
