Weeping Willow

On the last evening of October 1984, a boy sees his best friend have an accident. It is his last evening as a child; from now on, he must be strong and look ahead. But with a grief that cannot be explained to anyone. A life with guilt, with mourning, with loss, and with death that cannot get enough of it. In the summer of 1998, he loses his brother, and years later his mother. The boy has since become a lover, a husband, and a father. The dead are in his writing, in his loving, and in his struggles. They are at home where he lives. Treurwil based on the book of the same name by Rik Van Puymbroeck is accompanied by two gifted pianists who, with their own compositions, not only comfort the audience but also themselves. Yet Treurwil is not just an ode to grief; it is also a celebration of the strength that lies within it.
