During this musical lecture, Guy Verlinde makes the link to today using anecdotes, poems, and war songs and discusses the challenges and threats we face as a society such as the war in Ukraine, Gaza, the refugee crisis, fake news, ... In addition, the audience gets to know important historical counter-voices such as Siegfried Sassoon, Martin Luther King & Nelson Mandela. And his protest songs and those of, among others, Bob Dylan show the power of music and poetry as a means of resistance against armed conflicts. All songs are sung in Dutch, so that everyone can follow and understand the lyrics. It is a positive performance that carries a message of connection and hope. Over the past decade, Guy Verlinde (GENT/AARTRIJKE) has dominated the Belgian blues & roots scene. He toured non-stop through Europe, recorded 15 albums in 14 years, and played in numerous prestigious clubs (AB, De Roma, OLT, …) and at international festivals (Blues Peer, Cognac Blues Passions,
