Natuurgids Bart Deruyver was a board member of our Natuurpunt department, but moved to Ypres. Today he invites us to a day of nature experience in his new region.
In the morning we visit the Verdronken Weide, near the city. This wetland area attracts quite a few birds. We will take a short walk there of about 3 km.
After noon we will take a nice and longer (approx. 8 km) landscape walk. Walking trails away from the crowds will guide us around the Kemmelberg, including Monteberg and Lettenberg.
We will pass some source stream valleys, grasslands, and beautiful viewpoints. There will certainly also be attention for the war history of this region.
